Fotolibra
Photographer of the Week Interview
- (June 2006) |
| Interview
between Mandy Collins - Purple 13 Artist and Jacqui Norman - Fotolibra Web
Editor |
| How
would you describe your best photograph, and how you took it? |
| My
best photo would probably be 'Eve's
Apple' which I have chosen as my profile image. My 7 year old daughter
presented me with a flower which she insisted I photograph immediately.
It was a very basic shot and involved a jamjar and a window sill! Later
I altered it in Photoshop and went on to win in the Art category of 'Visions
of Science' |
Eve's Apple - Novartis Visions of Science Award Winner |
| How
would you describe the strangest photograph you have ever taken? |
'Cold
Water'
At the end of a family outing in Monsal Dale, Derbyshire, my children went
for a paddle in the river. Just as I pressed the shutter one of the children
slipped so I caught her falling into the very cold water. Later I zoomed
in on her face and turned it into an abstract in photoshop. This has since
been used by Epson, through Fotolibra, printed onto a giant piece of Perspex
at an exhibition and looked fantastic. |

| What
camera equipment do you use? |
| I
started with a Nikon Coolpix 885 in Summer 2002, at Easter 2004 I bought
one of the first Nikon D70's in the country. Since buying these cameras
I have taken nearly 8000 photos! As well as fotolibra I have my own website
www.purple13.co.uk |
| What
drives you? What are your passions? |
| I
love taking photos of my children but I also enjoy photographing flowers
because they don't fidget, moan, fight or pull faces! However, it is not
always the original photo that most inspires me, it is what I can do with
it. Apart from some digital art in my collections, all my abstract art is
derived from photos, of which many are originally floral. I am passionate
about colour. My 'string' is 'vivid, vibrant and visually stimulating'.
|
| What
interests do you have besides photography? |
| I
also enjoy silk painting and often use the photo art I have created for
inspiration. I exhibit my photo art and photos at 'Heanor
Antique and Craft Centre' and at 'Derwentside'
in Belper, Derbyshire. I would like to open my own gallery. |
| What
would you say is the best thing about fotoLibra? |
| When
I joined fotolibra they had only 2800 images on the site, I managed to upload
the 10,000 image, and now they have over 110,000 of which I have around
1050 images. So that's an awful lot of hard work all round. |
